We are excited to unveil the new collaborative piece, “Mind Time Machine II - Experiencing the Transcendent Space/Time Birthed from the Brain’s Emotion and Sensory Control Processes” created by Takashi Ikegami, evala, and Kenshu Shintsubo.

This project has been conducted under the joint auspices of our company, Tokyo Polytechnic University’s International Research Center for Color Science and Art, and Takashi Ikegami Laboratory at the University of Tokyo.

“MTM II” is a piece designed for viewers to experience the “time of the mind” within VR(). For this inaugural release, we have received sound contributions from sound artist evala (including “MTMDF” and “Hacking Tone”), and photographic materials from photographer Tatehito Shintsubo. These data sets were reconstructed by Alternative Machine to create the installation. The experience commences as the participant dons the HMD (Head Mount Display) and begins walking through an actual corridor space. Upon entry into the artwork, one realizes that the VR corridor is a superposition of the real and the generated corridors. Additionally, the soundscape within the artwork is derived from various visuals in VR, processed by neural networks (VQ-GAN, WaveGAN) trained solely on works by evala and Shintsubo. The imagery and sound created by the mind are generated rather than simply replayed. Therefore, the subjective time of the mind is also something that’s generated. While “MTM II” has been constructed using state-of-the-art technology and sound combinations, we plan on continuously updating it to reflect ongoing research and technological advancements.*
