We are excited to announce the premiere of the VR adaptation, “The Process in Question/The Bridge of Reversible Destiny - VR version 2022 ,” overseen by our company, at “Aichi Triennale 2022 STILL ALIVE.”
“Reversible Destiny Bridge” was initially conceived as a bridge over the river in Épinal, France, but the project never came to fruition. It is a foundational work based on the central concept of “reversible destiny” by Arakawa Shusaku and Madeline Gins. Its essence was later incorporated into subsequent works such as “Yoro Reversible Destiny Park” (1995) and “Mitaka Reversible Destiny Lofts” (2005). The bridge comprises 21 apparatuses, each labeled with names like “Bodily Inference of Light” and “Process of Collective Gaze.” Each segment is designed to compel a specific bodily action. The VR version is developed based on a 13m-long model, production notes from the past, and other “reversible destiny” works. The VR piece recreates 50m of what would have been a 140m-long bridge if it had been realized, offering an experience of crossing the intricate structure.
